Okay, I'm going to really miss this deadline in a big way.
But I have a pretty good reason. Sort of.
Mostly because this is a really crazy time for me at work as I'm gearing up for my vacation. During this time coming up, I really want to indulge my pipe dream and CRANK on some writing. And not just for The Assassin's Table, but for a big chunk of my backlog of material that includes two USAS Mullen adventures, a the first couple of tales in a brand new atom-punk series of stories and the first chunk of a pretty insane post-apocalyptic novel that's about a third of the way written. Crazy, huh?
Anyway, work was a bear this week and it really pulled me away from the diligence I've maintained with keeping up with the book. Freaking priorities. They get in the way of my writer's fantasy.
My plan was to sit at home tonight and just crank the next chapter out and post it. But a couple of things stopped me. Mostly it was the fact that I spent a good five hours of my work day at a computer screen. The idea of spending another long session at the computer was about as appealing as watching Donald Trump talk about...well, anything, really.
The second thing was the fact that I've been a little stuck with the narrative in general. It just wasn't flowing. Honestly, I was having trouble connecting the dots with the plot in general. That's the funny thing about writing. Sometimes you can't find the answer to your problem until you're working and in this case, not working on something. You see, being stymied with the narrative was killing my drive, which was manifesting in some serious work avoidance.
So I went back to my notes, I looked at my outlines and stared, got angry, rode my bike, came home, got angry all over again, stared at my notes and... whammy, a whole buttload of stuff just came together. I'm moving some things around, arranging the sequences of a few things and, well, that means I'm not going to post tonight. Sorry, I need another couple of days. Maybe another week. Sorry.
But hey, as long as you're waiting, take a look at my other serialized short story, Ivan v Zyd: the 50-foot Chicken. That might hold you over for a while. This one's already done, and I'm serializing it about every couple of days, so check that site frequently.
Thanks for your patience, True Believers! I want to make sure what I deliver is work your time.
